Allianz Travel Insurance

-
Your ARTA membership card has the Allianz phone number on it (I should have checked on that before my presentation) - but I would still recommend visiting here and printing off their checklist. Having your doctor’s information may be of some assistance and it might be a reminder to contact them early n the process. (they may cover some of your medical costs directly)
-
I would also recommend adding the page to the “bookmarks” of the web browser that you use on the device that you take along on your travels. That page gives a summary of the kinds of things for which you can be compensated (as long as you have receipts)
-
Unless they tell you otherwise, don’t bother printing claim forms off from the web. They will send you the forms you need – with some of the information filled in after you have called them.
-
They will need proof of all of your expenses – and will often ask for more than one piece of evidence. If a flight is involved, a receipt from the company which states the cost and which flight it was is not sufficient. An itinerary or boarding pass will likely also be required
-
You will also be expected to prove that you paid for it. For this reason, sending them a photocopy of a credit card statement will be helpful.
-
The other thing that you will have to prove is that you have not been outside of Alberta for so long that you are no longer eligible. A credit card statement will prove this for them as well.
-
All information that is related to the medical portion of the claim will have to be sent to them as a hard copy. This includes copies of the forms which they send you to fill out, receipts for everything medically related, and the medical information which you have received from a doctor.
-
If you receive medical advise to cancel or interrupt your trip, be sure to ask for documentation of that advise from the doctor. My experience is that it will need four different pieces of information: the diagnosis of the medical problem, the date, the doctor’s signature, and verification that the doctor has advised you to cancel or interrupt the trip.
-
You are going to have to prove or confirm to them that you did not get any refund for anything that you are claiming. Contacting the businesses related to the claims you make about possible refunds – or verification that no refund is available – as soon as possible is a good idea. Ask them to send you an e-mail confirming this so that you can forward it to Allianz.
-
Phone Allianz whenever something isn’t clear to you. (For example, if you are forced to book a hotel because your partner is stuck in the hospital, does insurance cover any of your costs?)
-
Expect them to ask you for more documentation than you might think is necessary. It is probably also safe to say that they will be reasonable in trying to understand your predicament. (It might be that the more reasonable you are with them, the more reasonable they will be with you.)
